The present exhibition is a collection of fine art created by some of the most respected artists in Bali – a culture known for its atelier system for art apprenticeship. Families in Bali specialize in a particular style of art – paintings, carvings, stone, furniture, jewelry, performing arts, dance, costume making – similar to ateliers in Europe during the Middle Ages and Renaissance period.
The collection of paintings and drawings for this exhibit represent very fine examples of their genre. Works by these artists adorn many private collections as well as the walls of museums and public buildings.
Many of these artists are true autodidactic talents, having shown strong aptitude as painters from an early age. Not only have most of them apprenticed in their families’ ateliers, but many have also studied with master painters and at art institutions at home and abroad to improve their technique. They are fine-artists in the truest sense of the word, whose work has received acclaim and high market value amongst art connoisseurs in Asia and Europe.
The contributing artists have committed to adding new works during the show and into 2012, so if you are looking for a special piece to enhance your décor, please look periodically at the collection, as it will be updated from time to time with new pieces.
